Success and Complacency

by Karthik Gurumurthy

Robin Sharma speaks about the need to fight the dangers success brings such as arrogance, complacency and inefficiency. All too often when a person or an organizations reaches lofty success, they stop doing the very things that made them successful. And therefore, success introduces them to the beginning of their end.

Just read these words of author Po Bronson that I wanted to share with you:

"Failure's hard but success is far more dangerous. If you're successful at the wrong thing, the mix of praise and money and opportunity can lock you in forever."

Did you do your best today, everyday?

-Karthik Gurumurthy

Writing this is a hard thing for me today. I was listening to Pravin and Madhu's talk which they did couple of years back in 7-Springs. It got me very emotional when I listened to this Champion who had set a tremendous example for everyone. Pravin went to God couple of months back as he battled cancer for several years. No matter how much of physical hardships he went through, he set an example of someone who lived life at his fullest potential.

Can you say that about your life?

Each and everyone of us has the potential to achieve greater things than we can imagine for ourselves. Sure, we set our goals and dream big, but there is so much more out there for us if we just push those barriers around us.

The take home message from Pravin's life is that we all need to live life as if every day was our last. What if, by some miracle, you could find out when your time was up? Wouldn't that change your approach to everyday life? Wouldn't you live every day trying to achieve greater things?

You see, too many people are waiting for something better to come along or a better opportunity to present itself, when in reality that opportunity could be right in front of them the whole time. We all need to be happy where we are right now, today. Unless you are happy now, you will never be happier once you get 'all that you desire'. I know that this may go against what you have heard or read in the past, but stop once in a while to take stock of all that you have achieved up to this point in your life.

We all only had one life to live. It is up to us to make the best life possible. I am sick and tired of seeing people wasting their potential. This world is full of untapped potential. It is about time that we focused on living a life that is overflowing with achieved success. There will be no doubt be many things out there that will make your attention away from your goals, but stick at it. Don't allow other influences to distract you.

If you are reading this and you are one of those ones who have reached what others would consider 'success', then it is up to you to nurture and build up those around you reach success, too. It is about time we all work together. The time to be selfish with our information, our knowledge and even our time is over. Together, we all can life full lives. There is nothing better than helping each other reach success. If you are greedy then I believe that your success will be short-lived.

Just think about this. What is it that you have to let go? What part of life aren't you living to its fullest potential? We all need to take stock of our lives everyday. Make sure you remember that if you are successful there will be by default people watching and learning from you. When you go to bed everyday, if God gives you a progress report every single day of how you did, will you score an A for doing whatever it takes? Think about it.

Make it happen.

Focus on what you want

-Karthik Gurumurthy

Every second you spend thinking about what you don't want in your life is a second denying focus and energy from getting what you do want. Every minute you worry about what is not working is a minute drawn away from creating what will work. And every hour spent reflecting on the disappointments of the past is an hour stolen from seeing the possibilities that your future holds.

What I have discovered in my own life is that I see more of what I look for. Clarity precedes mastery and the more clearly I look for what I want, the more powerfully I generate that result in my life. By setting clear goals in the important areas, I see more of what I'm searching for. By looking for the best in others, I generally find it. And by looking for the good things in my life and expressing gratitude for my blessings (rather than thinking about any problems), I see more of what's good.

Your thinking will create your reality. Your thoughts form your world? Why? Because you will never act against your thinking. Every action is the offspring of a thought. And your actions create the professional and personal life you find yourself in today.
