Love and aging

-Karthik Gurumurthy

You know, there's something beautiful about getting older, even though most people only see the challenges. Like Somerset Maugham said, it's kind of like the evening after a bright day - different, but just as special in its own way.

From what I've seen, especially during my visits to senior homes, love is really what our elders crave most. It breaks my heart seeing folks sitting there, feeling unwanted and lonely. Money and comfort are nice, but what they're really hungry for is genuine connection and care.

Let me tell you something real - with today's crazy work schedules and everyone running around, it's getting easier to just park our parents in senior homes and call it a day. I've seen this firsthand in South India when I meet my aunt, and man, it's tough to witness. The conditions in some of these places... it's not just about the bad food or poor care, it's the look of abandonment in their eyes that really gets to me.
